Autism Integrated Medical Services (AIMS) Clinic - Medical Team

Dr. M. Suzanne Lewis, H.BSc.,MD, FCCMG, FRCPC

Dr. Lewis is Co-Director of the Autism Interdisciplinary Medical Services (AIMS) Clinic, as well as Chief Medical Officer & Vice President of Research at the Pacific Autism Family Network. Outside of her work at AIMS and PAFN, Dr. Lewis is a Clinical Professor within UBC’s Faculty of Medicine in the Department of Medical Genetics and a Senior Clinician Investigator within the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. She leads the iTARGET-Autism Research Program and is a Founding Partner on the Steering Committee of the Autism Sharing (Genomic Research) Initiative (ASI) funded by the Canadian Digital Technology Supercluster. iTARGET-Autism research is subgrouping “The Autisms” via whole clinome, genome, metabolome, microbiome and proteome discoveries in a precision medicine focus on autism’s cause, not only its symptoms.

Dr. Lewis' contributions to the autism community and to Research, Sciences and Technology have been recognized by a 2019 YWCA Women of Distinction Award and a 2020 Top 100 Canada’s Most Powerful Women Award from the Women’s Executive Network.

 

Dr. Edgar Jimenez, BSc MD FRCP(C)

Dr. Jimenez is both a general and developmental behavioural pediatrician who has fully trained in Canada. He completed his medical school and pediatric residency at the University of Manitoba and later completed a fellowship in Developmental Pediatrics at Sunny Hill Health Centre and BC Children's Hospital through the University of British Columbia. Dr. Jimenez is the former medical director of the Asante Centre for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). He has a keen interest in developmental disabilities such as FASD and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as well as in ADHD, learning disabilities, and mental health. His practice also involves general pediatric care. Dr. Jimenez is also involved in Complex Developmental Behavioural Condition assessments and is a qualified pediatrician for diagnostic autism spectrum disorder assessments including ADOS2/ADIR instruments. In his time off, Dr. Jimenez is an avid soccer player who plays locally and for the Canada Medical Football Team at international tournaments. He also enjoys cycling. He is a proud father of two young children who keep him very busy.

Dr. Jennifer Slater, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Jennifer Slater is a child and adolescent psychiatrist specializing in the diagnostic assessment and treatment of neurodevelopmental conditions and mental health challenges. She completed her medical training in Ireland, and residency training at Dalhousie University. She has been a Qualified specialist for BCAAN at Sunnyhill for the past 4 years providing Autism Assessments, and has almost 10 years experience providing general pediatric psychiatric care in the community. She brings a unique skill set, with a particular interest in higher functioning older children and adolescents. She has expertise in Autism, Gifted learning profiles, Anxiety disorders, ADHD and psychotic illness. She also holds an academic position at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Marilyn Champagne, MDCM, FRCPC

Dr. Marilyn Champagne is a child and adolescent psychiatrist specializing in infant/preschool psychiatry. She completed medical school in 2008 at McGill University before going to University of Ottawa to complete a residency in psychiatry in 2013 and and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry subspecialty in 2014, which involved experience in perinatal psychiatry, infant psychiatry, and developmental pediatrics. She has been working for 6 years at the Early Childhood Mental Health Program at Richmond Hospital, and is a Qualified Specialist for BCAAN at SunnyHill. Dr. Champagne is very engaged in medical student and resident teaching as a Clinical Assistant Professor at UBC, and has held several leadership positions in the department of psychiatry related to medical education.

Dr. Ryan Chan, MD, FRCPC (C)

Dr. Ryan Chan is a Royal College certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and BC Autism Assessment Network Qualified Specialist in Autism assessment since 2011. He provides autism assessments for children under 6 as part of the AIMS team at Able Clinic, Richmond.  He is highly specialized in autism assessment and diagnosis, serving the community through BC Autism Assessment Network at Sunny Hill and youth 6 years and older as Medical Director of the community autism clinic, Dr. Ryan Chan Autism Assessment Services.  Dr. Chan has long contributed to medical and parent education as an expert in mental health and complex neurodevelopmental conditions.  Outside of his profession, he cherishes his time as husband and father to two energetic boys.
